Since the beginning of the lockdown, most office workers are working remotely from home. It is also the case at Google My Business where the employees must check the updates on millions of businesses listings.

Because of the sheer volume of information to process, Google has decided that the support teams would prioritise critical services to ensure that users and business owners have access to reliable and quality information on Google My Business and Google Maps.


The updates to other functionalities such as “comments” and “respond to comments” are temporality limited or delayed while the situation normalises.
This means updates of your listings might be temporarily delayed.

 

What impact do the limitations have on the management and update of your listings ? What type of content is still published ?

Google has prioritised manual critical edits. Other types of edits might experience publishing delays. Similar delays may be experienced when contacting support about these pending edits.

Google is prioritising manual reviews of edits for health-related businesses and information deemed critical for other kinds of businesses.

Here is the list of the critical informations :
  • Openings hours
  • Type of opening (open or temporarily closed)
  • Description (of the point of sale and services)

 

It is important to keep contact with your clients through your Google My Business listings.

In order to do that you need to :
  • Update your attributes
  • Use the Covid-19 posts

Some functionalities are back !


Good news ! Since a short period of time you are able to answer reviews again. The access to other functionalities will be progressively restored, according to countries and industry sectors.

In the following weeks you will be able to access :

  • the reviews that were not published during the lockdown period
  • the pictures that were not published during the lockdown period
  • the short names
  • the questions and answers

Google also gradually publishes reviews and pictures previously sent to Google Maps during the lockdown.
